Exposed to salt and chemicals
For actuators creating movement in agricultural machinery, such as spreaders and sprayers, it is almost inevitable that they will be exposed to various chemical compounds. For actuators operating on board blue water yachts, exposure to salt is sure as fate. LINAK manufactures solutions for both types of applications, and to ensure flawless and reliable performance, we test the actuators thoroughly.
LINAK industrial actuators have spent 500 hours in a salt spray chamber with a temperature of 40 °C and a relative humidity (RH) level of 93 %. They have been brushed with various chemicals repeatedly, each time leaving the compound on the actuator for at least 100 hours.

Why corrosion tests are important
When it comes to corrosion due to salt or strong chemicals, failing equipment is not only a costly affair. In a worst-case scenario, it can be dangerous to the person operating the application, if the actuator stops working properly.
Dealing with corrosive compounds in agriculture
For farmers using fertilisers, reliability is a number one priority. Actuators on, for example, a spreader or a sprayer are frequently exposed to some very aggressive substances. Their housings and sealings must be able to withstand these substances, allowing the actuator to operate unhindered for many years.
To ensure the necessary ingress protection, our industrial actuators are applied with chemicals, such as diesel, hydraulic oil, ethylene glycol, urea nitrogen, and NPK fertiliser. The actuators must pass a full performance test following these ordeals.
Wear and tear by the ocean’s salt
Electric actuators are used to increase comfort on yachts all over the world. But as every experienced sailor knows, nothing tolls the ship and its gear as the combination of salt and sun. Fluctuating temperatures and changes in humidity does nothing to help either.
Extensive testing against concentrated salt vapours helps ensure that actuators continue to deliver full performance throughout their life, operating in one of the harshest and most demanding environments on Earth.
