To ensure the operational reliability of professional construction machinery, it is important that the engine can be easily accessed and inspected, and at the same time it must be well protected behind a hood. For movement and heavy lifting on these large machines, hydraulics is typically the solution, but not always.
Electric actuators have several advantages
Hydrema has chosen to open and close the hood with electric actuators because, as Purchasing Manager Marianne Frank Mogensen explains: 'On the hood, it is much easier and cheaper to use an electric actuator rather than hydraulics'.
In addition, the actuator helps fulfil a safety requirement. When the hood is open, it must be safe for the operator to work under it. According to Marianne Frank Mogensen, the actuator acts as a stable support and eliminates the need for other locking mechanisms.
And she explains another advantage of the electric solution: 'It is a big plus that the actuator can operate when the machine is switched off. It simply takes power from the machine battery and does not require hydraulics'.
Hydrema uses LINAK® actuators to open and close the hood on several of their models. On the MX series of wheeled excavators and the 707G series of dump trucks, they use a single LA35, while using two parallel LA35 actuators on the large 922G series of dumpers.
High demands on business partners
Hydrema sets high standards for the companies they work with. ‘We only go for partners who are the best in their field. Our customers know that Hydrema means quality, which is why we carefully select our partners', Mogensen says.
Going for high-end partners is therefore an advantage for both customers and Hydrema itself. She elaborates: 'Our partners must be able to help us if there are problems. We also repurchase many of our own used machines and lease them out, among other things. That's why we rely on the quality of our machines, also in the long run’.
A long-term partnership
The LINAK-Hydrema partnership dates back to the mid-2000s. 'LINAK and Hydrema have developed together over the years. We were both ready then to do something new in the industry and helped each other get started', Mogensen explains and continues: 'Since then, despite competition, LINAK has managed to remain our first choice. The collaboration is professional and relies heavily on the trust we have built up over the years'.
Visions for the future
Hydrema has grand ambitions going forward. They are on a development journey that should lead to more dealers and a stronger foothold in even more countries. The construction and rental businesses in particular are to be expanded. ‘In addition, we always have development projects underway. We're currently exploring the next generations of our machines, and one of the things we're looking at is whether electric actuators can provide more benefits', Purchasing Manager Marianne Frank Mogensen concludes.
